Newborn Photography: What You Need to Know Before Booking Your Session

If you're a new parent, you're probably overwhelmed with all the decisions you need to make.

Newborn photography doesn't have to be one of them.

Let me guide you through the process and provide you with all the information you need to capture the early moments of your baby's life.

Let's dive into some of the most common questions about newborn photography.

What Should I Look For When Hiring a Newborn Photographer?

It's important to choose a photographer who specializes in newborn photography and has experience working with infants and someone who has a style of portraiture you are attracted to. At my studio, I have years of experience working with newborns and their families. I'm dedicated to providing a comfortable, safe and enjoyable experience for you and your baby. I understand the importance of capturing these early moments - all the tiny details you never want to forget. And I take pride in creating beautiful, timeless memories that you'll look back on for years to come.

What Should I Know about Newborn Photography?

To capture the best moments, it's important to schedule your newborn photography session as early as possible, ideally within the first two weeks of your baby's life. I recommend booking your session during the second trimester of your pregnancy to ensure availability.

What Can I Expect During a Newborn Photography Session?

During a newborn session at my studio, you'll be greeted at the door upon arriving and welcomed into a beautiful, clean and child-friendly space. If you've chosen to utilize the Client Closet, you'll find your outfits hanging nicely and waiting for you.

You'll find a comfortable and safe environment for your baby and I'll guide you through the entire process from start to finish. Family members are welcome and encouraged to participate in the session. Generally, the first half of the session includes the family: we usually start with the siblings, then family photos, then parent photos. For the family portion, I have two different (yet both very popular) styles you can choose from. Check out this blog post here to get an idea of which style fits you best.

Do I Need to Bring Anything to My Session?

Though this answer might change from photographer to photographer, it's important to know and plan ahead if there is anything requested to bring. Your photographer should guide you throughout this process so you feel at ease and fully prepared.

For my newborn sessions, you don't need to bring much as most of the items your baby will need will be provided by the studio, including props, backdrops and blankets. The studio also has a few children's toys for siblings, snacks and bottled water readily available and a changing table with newborn diapers accessible.

Some items I do recommend bringing include:

Diapers and wipes

Milk, bottles, other nursing accessories

Pacifier (I have extras at the studio in case you forget)

Plush blankets and a burp cloth

Going home pajama or sleeper

Toys and snacks if other children are attending

When and How Will I Get My Photos?

After the session, you can expect to receive the final gallery via a private, online weblink within 4-6 weeks from your session. I offer a range of packages that include high-resolution digital files as well as add-ons. You can view the different packages here.

How Much Does Newborn Photography Cost?

Newborn photography sessions can range from $425 to $825+, depending on the package. I know this might seem like a significant investment but keep in mind that newborn photography is a specialized service that requires a lot of time, expertise, equipment, props and fabrics and insurance. I'm dedicated to providing high-quality images and products that you'll cherish for a lifetime.

There you have it. Newborn photography is a wonderful way to capture the early moments of your baby's life and I do my best to take care of all the details, so all you have to do is show up!
